How Inclined Platform Lifts Enhance Safety

If you or a loved one live with limited mobility, you want to make sure your home is as safe and accessible as possible. If you have a multi-story home, this can become more difficult. You may already have a stairlift installed on your home’s staircase. You could also have a platform lift installed on your home’s exterior to accommodate your mobility device. With an incline platform lift, you can combine the benefits of both lifts into one device. Eco Medical is here to highlight the benefits of inclined platform lifts (IPL) and show how they enhance safety and accessibility in your home.

No Need for Transfers

With a standard stair lift, the patient needs to be moved from their mobility device to the stair lift chair. Once the stair lift has reached the top of the stairs, the patient needs to then be placed back in their mobility device. This presents multiple opportunities for patients to sustain a fall each time they try to go up and down the stairs. In some cases, if a client cannot safely transfer, they will lose independence. With an inclined platform lift, there is no need to transfer the patient. They can stay seated in their device as the lift takes them up and down the stairs.

Best for Straight Stairs, Less Expensive Than a Handicapped Elevator

It’s important that your inclined platform lift complements the existing layout of your home. This ensures your lift system can operate as safely as possible. Eco Medical can ensure the lift system will work with your home’s design and keep major changes to a minimum.

Often the entire house does not need to offer the type of accessibility that a more expensive multi-level home elevator offers. The IPL can be a much less expensive alternative.

Enhanced Safety Features

If you’re installing an inclined platform lift in your home, you’ll want to make sure it’s safe. Safety features for these lift systems include:

  • Platform access flaps automatically fold up to create a barrier to prevent rolling
  • Safety arms for easy grip while in use
  • Remote operation
  • Non-slip surface
  • Entire unit can fold up when not in use to allow ambulatory access
  • IPL’s come with emergency operation options

At Eco Medical, our staff is trained to help you find the right home accessibility equipment. We offer several inclined platform lift options, including the popular Atlas AC105 IPL. If you’d like to learn more about the benefits of an inclined platform lift, please contact our team.
