Bladder Health Month: Most Common Bladder Issues to Be Aware of

There’s one thing we can all agree on, bladder issues of any kind are never fun. Bladder issues can be extremely painful, uncomfortable, and just plain annoying. In honor of Bladder Health Month, we wanted to help shed some light on the most common bladder issues to be aware of.

Overactive Bladder

An overactive bladder, also known as OAB, causes a frequent sudden urge to urinate that is difficult to control. If you have OAB, you may experience urgency incontinence and leak often. To help ease discomfort, there are exercises and treatments available to help those who experience OAB.

UTI

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are easily one of the top bladder issues that people face, women especially. UTIs are bacterial infections in any part of the urinary system: the kidneys, the bladder, or the urethra. A UTI may cause pelvic pain, increased urgency to urinate, pain with urination, and blood in the urine. These symptoms can go away on their own if they are mild, but often need to be treated with antibiotics.

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is when a person leaks urine unintentionally. This can often happen when:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Laughing
  • Running

Urinary incontinence is typically common in older people and in women after vaginally birthing children.

Cystitis

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, usually caused by a bladder infection. This is a common type of a UTI, one that is usually found in women. While this is very common, it is not too serious, especially when caught early on. It is more of a nuisance to many more than anything.

Tip: Drinking cranberry juice can help with these infections.

We hope you never have to deal with bladder infections, or at least not often, but if you do, know that they are extremely common. It is very important to be aware of potential symptoms to identify a bladder infection early on and to know when to go to the doctor to get help. If the issue arises and you need help managing your bladder issues, we offer incontinence products to keep you protected and comfortable all day long.
