Home Accessibility During the Holidays

Home Accessibility During the Holidays

As the holidays approach, they present an opportunity for us to spend quality time with the people who mean the most to us. And if you’re hosting a holiday gathering, you want to make sure each of your loved ones can easily navigate your home. If you have a loved one with limited mobility, you may have to make some adjustments to your home during the holiday season. Eco Medical offers these tips to help make sure your home is as accessible as possible during the holidays.

Make Sure All Pathways Are Clear

You’re likely already planning on doing some cleaning before the holidays to make sure your home is as presentable as possible. While you’re cleaning, make sure you provide clear pathways throughout your home. This will allow any family members who use a mobility device to more easily navigate your home without encountering obstacles.

Plot a Path with Wide Doorways

Every home is different. But, if possible, try and direct traffic in your home to the widest doorways. This will allow those with mobility devices or ambulatory aids to get through doorways much easier, since wider doorways are more accommodating of their devices.

Consider Renting a Ramp

If your home’s entrance isn’t level, renting a ramp may be an essential step to allow mobility devices to safely enter your home. Eco Medical can provide you with a portable ramp system or a threshold entry ramp/mat to allow access to your home for your entire family.

Potential Home Accessibility Gifts

It may have been a while since you’ve seen some members of your family because of the ongoing pandemic. You may find that some of your loved ones are having a harder time getting up and down the stairs in their home. To help them, you may want to consider giving them a stair lift that will make it safer for them to get up and down the stairs.

Eco Medical wishes you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season. If you have any questions about how we can improve your home’s accessibility during the holidays, please contact us.
